left Quote

ST ATHANASIUS OF ALEXANDRIA (c. 296–373)

Jesus did not come for show. He came to heal and to teach suffering humankind.  For one who wanted to make a show, the thing would have been just to appear and dazzle the beholders. But for him who came to heal and to teach, the way was not merely to live among us, but to put himself at the disposal of those who needed him, and to show himself in the measure of our capacity to receive him – not exceeding it, lest the value of his coming  among us be ruined.
